Immigration Services
Immigrants leave their home for a variety of reasons: to improve their economic situation and their standard of living, to join other family members or friends, to retire, or simply because they want change.
There are many barriers to immigration, not only legal and political but also psychological. When immigrants leave their country they also leave behind everything that is familiar to them: their family, friends, support networks and social customs. Moving is an expensive and uncertain time in someone’s life. Upon arriving in a new country an immigrant faces many uncertainties including how to find work and where to live. They must become familiar with new laws and bureaucracies, social customs and language. There are many issues that can make them and their families feel excluded.
A company like GETiN, which will help you settle and integrate, can be invaluable at this time.
Citizenship
Portuguese citizenship can be acquired either by birth (you must be born on Portuguese territory), by marriage, by adoption or through a process of naturalisation which requires the fulfilment of several conditions. GETiN can help you acquire Portuguese citizenship, which will give you full European rights as a member of the European Union.
Non-Habitual Residents
This tax regime of non-habitual residents has been formulated to attract people and investment to Portugal. To be able to apply for this status, individuals must become tax residents in Portugal but must not have been tax residents in Portugal for a minimum of 5 years previously. Under the regime’s rules, employment and self-employment income derived from “high value-added activities of a scientific, artistic or technical nature” earned by non-habitual residents in Portugal will be taxed at a flat rate of 20%. Additionally, the regime also establishes a tax exemption for foreign-sourced income, such as, employment income, self-employment income, rental income, interest, dividends as well as other investment income. This regime is applicable for a period of ten consecutive years.
Resident Permit for Investiment Activity (ARI / Golden Visa)
New legal provisions provide the possibility for those who pursue investment activities in Portugal to apply for a Residence Permit, for example, those who transfer capital, create jobs or acquire real estate. The holders of a Golden Residence Permit for the purposes of investment activity have the right to family regrouping, and may gain access to a permanent residence permit, as well as to Portuguese citizenship in accordance with the current legal provisions.
